On Saturday, October 8, 18 of us gathered for our very first Farm Church! We read aloud a story from the Japanese Zen tradition as well as a lesson from the gospel of Matthew, celebrated the Eucharist with bread and the fruit of the vine, and then spent nearly an hour with our hands in the dirt–pulling weeds, shoveling mulch–and feeding the chickens. After our work we sat down at picnic tables with each other to enjoy a hot breakfast of migas and reflect on the readings, our work in the garden, our relationship with God, and allmanner of things that were inspired by the time we spent worshiping the Lord in the beauty of holiness (Psalm 96:9).
For Greg, Alex, and me (Brin), this time together was a long time in the making. To be in the midst of people coming together to experience relationship with God through a connection with the land brought to fruition seeds that we’ve each been planting for a long time.
I’m thrilled about what is possible for this ministry and I can’t wait until our next Farm Church gathering on November 12th.
